The Heart2Heart 2025 Report – Bridging the Language Gap in Mental Health

Since launching in early 2023, Heart2Heart has met a critical and growing need. In 2025, call volumes rose by over 60%, totaling 2,044 calls.

“Living in a local care home, I struggle to explain my medical needs or the grief of changing family dynamics in German – having someone to talk to in English feels like a bridge back to myself.”

“After losing my job, the silence in my apartment became deafening; calling H2H was the first time in weeks I felt seen amidst the crushing weight of unemployment and isolation.”

More than half of our callers continue to reach out regarding mental health difficulties, including severe depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Many are international residents with limited proficiency in a national language who value the opportunity to speak openly in English. We have also noted that issues related to couple relationships (23%) and family or parenting challenges (46%) are raised more frequently than on our German-language line. Additionally, 3.4% of our callers are minors – a rate more than four times higher than on the German support line.
